Game Review: New World (PC)
As an avid MMORPG player and world of warcraft veteran it’s difficult for me to think any developer other than blizzard could make a game that would hold up in the genre. I must say Amazon has changed my mind l, New World has become my new love. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a perfect game, but it’s very well done.
New World, Developed by Double Helix and published by Amazon Games, takes a lot of concepts from many other games such as Elder Scrolls titles, World of Warcraft and The Division. Amazon has done a great job taking the best concepts from each of these games and incorporating them into one game.
There are three factions to choose from and no real advantage when choosing your faction other than the population on each one. The overall goal of each faction is to compete against another for territory standing across the world. Each faction can declare war against opposing land and then compete in a PvP battle to determine who will keep or take over. As is par for the course, some factions have more populous than others and you will tend to see some factions do better than others. My advice would be to check the servers out before picking a server and faction you want to play.
The leveling system is 1-60 and instead of offering different classes to play they have incorporated a leveling weapon system. There are five melee weapons, two range weapons and three caster weapons. One of the three caster weapons provides healing. Each level offers three points to be put into strength, dexterity, intelligence, focus, and constitution.
New World professions can be quite overwhelming to some. This is because the game offers a ton. You can mine, log, jewel craft, weaponsmith, armorsmith and more. Players can put in hours and hours of play time in just leveling professions.
New World offers both PvE and PvP play time to fit both player bases. There are five man dungeons that require a tank, healer and three dps to complete. You can open world PvP or you can compete in PvP style battlegrounds.
As a whole, New World is a very good game. Though it’s still very new for an MMORPG, it has a lot of potential. I would like to see raids added to the game and more weapon options, but I highly recommend giving it a try if you’re bored of your current MMO. I know I will be playing it for many months to come.
