It’s Official: Witcher 3 Runs Better on Xbox One

The first truly next-gen title came out this week which is “Witcher 3” and, of course, like with any other multiplatform release, it sparked a debate about which of two main platforms run it better.

According to DigitalFoundry the 3rd installment in the Witcher series performs marginally better on Xbox One than on PS4, outdoing the latter from 3 to 9 frames at times! You could argue that Xbox One has a lower resolution of 900p compared to PS4’s 1080p, but do not forget about the dynamic scaling that has been added to Xbox One version via the day-one patch, which means that at certain points in the game it will switch between 1080p and 900p to maintain a sturdier frame-rate, improving the overall experience.

As for the other performance aspects like draw distance, lighting, and texture resolution: they all hold up and perform great on both consoles, with the exception of lighting that looks slightly better on PS4, but Xbox One counters that with the aforementioned frame rate, so it seems like a draw between two electronic giants. But let’s not forget that although Witcher 3 received generally favorable reviews, developers at CD Project RED are already working on new patches and are promising further improvements across all platforms, including PC. “We are still fighting for every line of code,” said the developer. “We want gamers to get the best possible experience we can deliver.”

The Witcher 3 already looks great on Xbox One and with new patches on the way, it can indeed, in the near future, give Sony a run for its money, considering that currently, it sold fewer units than PS4. But in a friendly competition between both consoles and their fanbases, actual fanbases, people who have dignity and respect for one another, people who know that in the end, they all chose this hobby for the same reason – to have fun, not indulge in an endless petty competition of “Which system is better?”, but to sit down, relax and enjoy one of the most important video games of recent years.
