Review: Turtle Beach Stealth Pro Headset (Xbox)
Turtle Beach has always worked hard to stay at the forefront of the gaming headset space by providing devices that push the industry forward while still providing the comfort and familiarity of what gamers are used to. While there is a lot of fierce competition out there, Turtle Beach has introduced a headset that goes toe-to-toe with the best in the industry.
Dubbed “The King of Wireless,” The Turtle Beach Stealth Pro is a gaming headset that, from top to bottom, provides the most advanced technology available in gaming headsets. On the outside, the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro has a simplistic, sleek, and modern look. It is available in black with green accents for Xbox and Black with blue accents for PlayStation.
The Turtle Beach Stealth Pro is designed with ergonomics in mind. The earcups swivel to fit the contours of your head, while the headband can be adjusted to fit various head sizes. This ensures that the headset fits comfortably and securely, even during extended gaming sessions.
The Stealth Pro is built with durable materials that can handle the wear and tear of daily use. The yokes and headband are made of metal; with the headband and earcups covered in leatherette memory foam that provides an incredibly comfortable and glasses-friendly fit.
Now to the good stuff; audio. The Turtle Beach Stealth Pro sports 50mm Nanoclear speakers that include 56% more surface area than its competition. These Nanoclear drivers deliver clear and accurate sound, as well as a deeper bass response and a much wider soundstage. We had no issues hearing every nuance of the entire atmosphere in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. The audio experience with the Stealth Pro in that title well-balanced and can captured even the smallest details. From the birds chirping, to the sounds of footsteps in dirt, through grass and on concrete, makes it so much easier to see which direction enemies are coming from. The audio nuances that the Stealth Provides made it feel like we had an advantage over our opponents to the point where it almost felt like we were cheating.
Turtle Beach has built multiple mics into the Stealth Pro to allow gamers to choose the style they like best. While both the dual-integrated mics and the unidirectional cardioid boom mic provide the S.M.A.R.T. noise cancellation that Turtle Beach is known for, the TruSpeak boom mic provides 10x more noise cancellation than any other headset on the market. We spent a lot of time stress-testing the device with both the integrated and TruSpeak mic, and we found that while the integrated mics cancelled out most background noise, we found that in a loud environment such as an eSports competition, the noise cancellation just did not hold up. The TruSpeak boom mic on the other hand, kept the outside noise quiet, and by that we mean silent. While playing competitive matches in a tournament setting, we found that neither our team nor the opposing team found it difficult to hear each other, even though they were all in the same room.
Gamers know that compatibility is crucial when choosing a gaming headset, Turtle Beach has made that choice easy with the Stealth Pro. The headset is compatible with just about every platform. That means that PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox, PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, mobile and any other platform gamers can think of is covered, even legacy devices. The only caveat to compatibility is that the PlayStation-designed version is not compatible with Xbox consoles, but the Xbox version is compatible with PlayStation consoles.
In addition to the Stealth Pro’s strong dual-wireless capability, which features Bluetooth 5.1 and 2.4GHz connections, the device comes with a wireless transmitter that doubles as a battery charger thanks to the removable 12-hour batter in the headset. The battery is hidden behind a removable cover on outside of the earphone.
The feature set never seems to end with the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro; Want to use the device as a wired headset? That’s not a problem thanks to the included 6.5 ft. USB-C cable. Want to listen to music on your phone and game on your console, go ahead. Want to customize your headset settings on the go? Easy-peasy thanks to the onboard save feature built into the device. Want to change those settings? Just whip out the Turtle Beach Audio Hub app. Need to increase volume quickly? Got you covered because the outside of the right earcup doubles as a wheel that can be re-mapped utilizing the Audio Hub app. On the go? Check, just toss the headset into the included Turtle Beach-branded carrying bag.
Turtle Beach aimed for the top of the mountain with the Stealth Pro, and we are happy to say that they’ve staked their flag at the peak. We spent hours and hours with this device and handed it off to multiple staff and casual gamers. Every time someone had a concern, the answer was already in the Stealth Pro. It’s safe to say that this is one of the best headsets ever released to market by anyone.
Long live the king.
The Turtle Beach Stealth Pro headset is available now at all major retailers and at Turtlebeach.com for an MSRP of $329.99.
