Slightly Mad seems to be struggling with the Wii U port of Project Cars
Earlier this month, Slightly Mad Studios released their long awaited title Project Cars for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with a Wii U version following shortly after. However, it seems as though players are going to have to wait a bit longer for that version to be released…if it ever does.
The developers over at Slightly Mad seem to be struggling with the development of the Wii U version of their racing title. In a recent forum post, studio head Ian Bell described some of the issues the team has been expriencing, and admit to only being able to acheive “23 FPS on the Wii U at best.” This equates to about 720p, which was the goal for the Wii U port. Bell also expresses hope for Nintendo’s next system, which they hope will be discussed at the upcoming E3 conference. Unfortunately, Nintendo has already said they don’t plan on announcing their new system, the NX, until 2016.
Nintendo’s Wii U is notoriously dificult to work with, gaining criticisms from multiple third party developers for its lack of power. Many developers have had to cut back on features or looks of their games in order for it to run properly on Wii U, which lead to many devs abandoning the system all together. It doesn’t seem like Slightly Mad Studios wants to give up just yet, and may have to cut back on visuals or features in Project Cars. Otherwise they may follow suit and abandon the Wii U version of their racing title.
